Privacy, Data Collection, Data Usage and Consent

Browser Cookies

The GreatSchoonerRace.com (GSR) website employs cookies. A browser cookie (aka internet cookie, web cookie) is a small text file that the GSR website sends to your web browser, which is then stored on your computer. The cookie does not contain any personally identifiable information. It contains a modest amount of information about your particular web browser and about your visit to our website. Cookie text files do not contain viruses and will not hurt your computer. You can control whether or not your browser permits cookies to be stored and how long your browser stores your cookies. You can turn off cookies any time you wish, but you should be aware that some websites will not function properly if cookies are not permitted.

Data from Registration and Contact Forms

If you wish to submit registration for your vessel or if you wish to send us a web inquiry, we will collect information for your full name, address, city, state, email address and/or contact phone numbers. This information is protected by our SSL certificate, which is applied site-wide. We do not store your information in our web database. Your information is sent to us through the encrypted forms on the website. We then store that information securely in an encrypted/locked file on a computer that sits behind a secure wireless connection and firewall and we keep it for a period of 36 months.

Web Site Security

The GSR website is protected via a 256-bit RSA Comodo SSL Certificate. Your connection to our site and information you provide on our site is secured.

How We Use Your Data

The data that is collected on the website is gathered for the sole purpose to send you information about the Great Schooner Race or to send you email communication that you explicitly and directly requested or opted-in for. We will keep your mailing information on file for three (3) years or until you ask us to remove you from our mailing list. Your email address stays on file until you unsubscribe.

We Respect Your Privacy

Our email delivery is serviced by Constant Contact and every email contains the ability to unsubscribe or opt-out. If you no longer wish to receive our emails, we kindly ask that you unsubscribe (or email us at info@sailmainecoast.com and ask us to remove you) as opposed to filing a SPAM report. We do NOT send email to anyone other than those persons who opted in.

We give you our solemn promise that we will never share the information we collect with 3rd party advertisers, programs, services, list rental houses, or individuals with whom you did not explicitly and directly opt-in. We value your privacy and your trust in us.

The Consent You Grant Us

When you use our website to submit a registration, use our contact form, or sign up for our monthly e-mail newsletter, you are directly providing consent for us to contact you and send you information.

Google Analytics & Remarketing

Like most websites on the planet, the MWA website uses Google Analytics to track website visitors. The Google Analytics code that is on the website does not capture any personally identifiable or personally sensitive information. It knows you only by your IP address at the location where you are browsing. The information we gather from Analytics tells us the pages that were visited, how many visitors came to the site in a period of time, how many goals (registrations, email signups, web contacts) were completed, and other information that allows us to make decisions about how to make the website better for you. It does not, however, tell us anything about you in particular. Google has options for you to opt-out of being tracked by Analytics if you wish. You should be aware, though, that by opting out, businesses lose valuable information they get to help make your online experience a more positive one.

How You Can Opt-Out

You always have the choice to stop receiving e-mail or printed mail from us. You have a number of ways you can opt-out:

  • Email: Please use the unsubscribe link near the bottom of the email you receive from us.
  • Call us toll-free at 1-800-807-9463 and tell us that you’d rather not receive mail and/or to remove you from email.
  • E-mail us at info@sailmainecoast.com and tell us that you’d rather not receive mail and/or to remove you from email.
  • Snail-mail us at The Maine Windjammer Association, P.O. Box 1083, Rockland, Maine 04841
  • View Google’s information on opt-out and privacy.

No matter how you reach us, we’ll respond to your request promptly.

Training, Education, Co-operation & Compliance

The MWA, on behalf of the Great Schooner Race, ensures that the people who handle registrations and contact information, web inquiries, and email opt-ins understand and adhere to the guidelines set forth here as as required by both GDPR and PCI Compliance. We assess methods and procedures biannually and we complete a compliance self-assessment annually.
